PO7C Films is a creative and innovative space for young filmmakers founded by Alexia Barrett.

The Team are currently in production of their first short film project, 'Power Of The Current'.

Discover the Power and Grit behind Amateur Para-Swimming through the lens of Italian amateur national gold-medallist, Sofia Brizio. Uncover how sport can Transform a life, the nuances of disability discrimination in Italy, and a compelling love of the water.

Swimming, Survival, & Success

Sofia was born with Spastic Diplegia, a form of Cerebral Palsy that impacts her coordination and motion. The congenital neurodevelopmental disability has left her with limited movement from the waist down, difficulty walking and damage to her left lung, but despite it all she goes against the current and swims.

Sofia has been competing at a national level with her local team in Italy since 2010, winning over 6 gold medals, 5 silver and 4 bronze.

Due to disability discrimination and lack of accessibility Sofia moved to the UK for better opportunities — settling in Cardiff, Wales — but her passion for swimming makes her return back to Italy every season to compete.

With a hole in her left lung and a worsening condition she fears that this may be her last competitive year but she is determined to break her own records and to continue going against the current.

We follow her on this potentially final journey while learning her story.

Through archive of Sofia’s swimming competitions showcasing her swims from childhood to current day, stylistic shots of her swims, actuality of her home in Bergamo to her life in the UK, and master interviews with Sofia, her family, and friends we learn her story.

Meet the Team

Founder PO7C Films, Director

Alexia Barrett

Founder of PO7C Films, Alexia is a Freelance TV Researcher and AP working in Unscripted Television.

She is skilled in Development and has plenty of experience working on and finding fantastic locations, liaising with contributors and talent, organising shoots, writing pitches, and sourcing and clearing archive.

A passionate budding filmmaker.

This will be her first independent project.

Camera Operator

Anna Fumagalli

Anna is an italian filmmaker and videomaker based in Bergamo. Documentary and Video Art are the main languages she works with.
In 2020 she started work as History of Cinema's Lecturer at NABA in Milan, where she graduated with a degree in Painting and Visual Arts.

Talent

Sofia Brizio

Sofia is an Italian writer, translator, activist and teaching associate in Journalism at Cardiff University. In her spare time, she swims competitively at a national level with her local para-swimming team in Italy (PHB Polisportiva Bergamasca), juggling life in two different countries and putting everything into what she loves.

Editor

Matt Clark

Matt is a Junior Editor in Unscripted TV in Bristol with a range of experience working in different genres from daytime to specialist factual. This will be the fifth short film he has edited and third short documentary.

Edit/Archive Assistant

Kaitlin Brock

Kaitlin is an assistant editor in the TV industry and is skilled throughout the post-production workflow.
After recently completing an apprenticeship with Sgil Cymru, she has experiences in both scripted and unscripted.
With a passion for storytelling, her aim for the future is to reach role of Editor.

Director of Photography

Duncan Birnie

Passionate about storytelling with a keen interest in the technology that enables it, Duncan works in both post-production and on camera.

Duncan as our Cardiff based Camera Operator will be bringing the Welsh side of the story to life.

Underwater Camera Operator

Caterina Giovannetti

Caterina is a passionate diver and Underwater camera-woman.

She started as a diving instructor and is currently working as an underwater camera technician.

Caterina gained an MA in Wildlife Documentary Production in 2020 during the Pandemic.

Safety Diver/Dive Supervisor

Jenny Lord

Jenny is a safety diver and dive supervisor who’s been working in, on or under water for over 20 years.

Her aim in life is to help everyone enjoy our natural environment, especially the water. Safety is her job but she’s not happy unless she’s also having fun.
